FIAN Zambia operates the Right to Food Zambia mobile application (“App”) under the Stronger Together: Supporting Civil Society to Advance the Right to Food project, supported by SIDA via We Effect Zambia. We are committed to transparency and protection in handling your personal data, consistent with applicable laws, including Zambia’s Data Protection Act.

By using this App, you acknowledge that you have read and agree with this Policy. If you disagree, please do not use the App.

This Policy aims to:

  • Clarify your rights regarding your personal data.
  • Demonstrate how we safeguard your privacy and security.

  • Personal Data: Any information relating to an identified or identifiable individual.
  • User: Any individual who interacts with the App.
  • Data Controller: FIAN Zambia, responsible for data collection and management.

4.1. Data You Provide Directly

  • Incident report details (text, photos, voice notes, location—if optionally shared).
  • Language preference and app settings.

4.2. Data Collected Automatically

  • App usage metrics (e.g., screens accessed, crash reports).
  • Approximate device data (e.g., OS version, device model).

4.3. Purpose of Processing
We process data for:

  • Enabling reporting and tracking of food rights violations.
  • Delivering educational content and community alerts.
  • Improving app functionality via analytics.
  • Preparing anonymized reports to support advocacy and policy.

All processing is based on our legitimate interest in empowering communities, and where consent is required (e.g., sharing personal photos), explicit consent is obtained.

5. Data Retention, Storage & Security

  • Data is stored securely on servers compliant with industry standards and located within Zambia or trusted jurisdictions.
  • We retain data only as long as necessary to fulfill the stated purposes or to meet legal obligations.
  • Unauthorized access, loss, alteration, or disclosure is minimized via technical safeguards (e.g., AES-256 encryption, secure authentication) and organizational measures.

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell or share your personal data for commercial purposes. We only disclose data:

  • With your consent, if you voluntarily identify yourself in a report.
  • With relevant entities, such as local authorities or partner organizations, to address validated violations as per agreed protocols.
  • As required by law, in response to lawful requests.

All third-party engagements are bound by confidentiality consistent with this Policy.

  • Request data deletion when there is no longer a lawful basis to retain it.

The App is not intended for users under 13 years old. We do not knowingly collect data from minors. If you believe such data has been submitted, please contact us for removal.

We may update this Policy periodically. Any changes will be posted within the App, accompanied by the updated effective date. Your continued use of the App after updates indicates acceptance.
